Today's freebie - a flared midi length skirt - was developed in collaboration with Eversewme.
What do you need? Below are some Fabric suggestions for your Satin skirt!Sewing instructions for the Satin skirt
When cutting at an angle (diagonally), you must spread your fabric out completely in front of you. Then take a corner and lay it so that the fabric fold is now at a 45° angle to the cut or selvedges. The selvedge lies on the cutting edge.
Caution: When cutting at an angle, the fabric stretches and cut pieces can lose their shape. So - do not ‘fiddle’ with the skirt pieces unnecessarily.
Make sure that the diagonal grain of the front and back sections run in opposite directions.
Firstly, neaten the hem edges. Then lay the two cut-out pieces right sides together and pin them in place. Then sew the side seams together and neaten them. Cut the elastic band to your own waist size and sew it together to form a ring. Quarter the elastic and the waistband edge and mark the points with pins. Then pin the elastic to the waistband edge on the wrong side of the fabric. This is where the markings (pins) meet. Sew the elastic to the top edge of the skirt using a stretchy stitch. Place the elastic on the inside and stitch it in place from the right side with a few stitches. The elastic can then be topstitched from the right side using a twin needle. Then hem the skirt and your sewing project is finished.
